Last time I promised that we did something cool that we wanted to share with you. Many months ago, way back in February, I wrote an article about a huge dodgeball charity event taking place in Philly in April. I asked Becky if she wanted to be involved, even though it was on her birthday, and she was 100% game. It was called The Biggest Dodgeball Game Ever [in Philly], the disclaimer was probably for some legal or world record reasons, but either way this was not your middle school's dodgeball game. The whole group was divided into two groups, given free T-shirts, asked to sign waivers, and brought onto the turf at the Wells Fargo Center where I assume the Philadelphia Soul and Philadelphia Wings play. I wasn't really sure how to name this one so bear with me:
58. Participate in a huge Dodgeball Game
and
59. Play on the turf at the Wells Fargo Center
We took some pictures at the game, but were too afraid to bring our cameras out into the actual game so we'll have to be a little illegal and put the photos some professionals took with the watermark on the page. Not trying to steal them, just showing you what it was really like!
The two teams before the start of the game. The green team was full of cheaters, while our team, the white team, was virtuous and put up a good fight!
Yea white team! We're in the middle if you feel like playing a game of "Where are the Go Getters?"
Our friends Scott, Eamonn, Gabby and Troy joined us because the event also took place during Becky and Jamie's birthday weekend. This was the start of the day's festivities.
Despite staying in the back and not touching a single ball, I still got out pretty early during the two games. Becky, Gabby, Scott, Troy (all visible in the picture) and Eamonn were pretty involved in the game, however. They are fearless, unlike me.
Troy ended up being the last one of us left in the second game. He stayed in twice as long as we did. (He's the one right in the center, FYI)
But we still had a great time! Look at those smiles!
This kid Johnny didn't even know he was getting his picture taken with the infamous Go Getters. Happy Birthday Johnny, that's our gift to you!
59. Smoke Hookah
Okay, this is something I never thought I'd do. I tried smoking cigarettes once and it felt like swallowing fire, so I was wary to try Hookah. However, if you've never tried it, it's nothing like you'd think! It was actually pretty enjoyable and relaxing!
There were a ton of choices but we chose raspberry. I'm just now noticing however that two of the options were "Freak's Choice" and "Circus Assault," we made a very safe choice.
Becky was an old pro.
And although I was nervous at first and had to be coached how to do it:
I too could make myself look like a dragon, eventually.
Along with the fabulous hookah we had some DELICIOUS falafel and even more delicious hummus.
I remember saying that we should do this every week, but thankfully for my bank account and lung capacity, we have not followed my suggestion.
The painting made it into Artists magazine! Hooray Becky!
I'm going to count this as one because we've both done it:
60. Have your name and/or photo in a magazine.
Well my photo hasn't been in a magazine, but my name has, and my photo is hanging up by a train station in Philly. Our friend Troy, pictured earlier in the post, is part of an art group called Nom Now that does wheat pastes around the city. He takes a picture every day and not long ago he blew some up and printed them out at Staples and pasted them up around the city. I was at first not happy about my photo going up in the city because I look like a total waste case, but let me clarify: I was not wasted in this photograph. I was 100 percent sober. We thought it would be funny if I put on all of our mardi gras beads, put one bead on a 40 of beer and then took a sip out of it. Plus all three of Jamie's cats were in the background. It's a pretty hilarious picture, and now it's up for all of Philadelphia to see. And you.
So until next time, good luck exploring the infinite abyss.
Love always,
The Go Getters
